Interview

We interviewed Per-Ola Berggren who works at Novisen. Novisen is a restaurant school with students from Westerlundska. Per-Ola is a teacher at the Westerlundska restaurant school Novisen in Enköping.

How do you think it goes for all the restaurants in Enköping? I don’t think it goes so well for them.

Have you owned a restaurant? Yes I have.

Do you enjoy working on Novisen? Yes I do, it’s fun to see the students develop.

On which restaurant would you like to work on if you got to decide? I would like to work in a hotel restaurant in Spain.

Which was the first restaurant you worked on? The first restaurant I worked on was the Hotell Anglais in Stockholm.

Do you think there is too much of one kind of restaurants in Enköping? Yes, I think it too much pizzerias in little Enköping.

Which one is your favorite restaurant? Sjömagasinet in Göteborg is my favorite restaurant. They serve seafood and it’s a more luxury restaurant.

Which one is the restaurant you dislike most in Enköping? I don’t like the pizzeria Ricos so much.

Where would you start a restaurant in Enköping and which sort of restaurant would you start? I would like to start a summer restaurant nearby Mälaren like Bredsand (Bredsand is a beach in Enköping).

How do you think a good restaurant should be? It should be high quality ingredients and great and knowledgeable people who work there.

Cafés in Enköping

Wendy’s coffee – Wendy’s  is placed in the Paus building and it is quite new. There you can both eat and drink a cup of coffee and the.  It is not the cheapest alternative, but they always serve good food. Here you can sit in nice couches and comfortable armchairs.

Tammerfors – Tammerfors is one of the oldest cafés in Enköping, and it is recently renovated after a bankrupt. It is located next to the demolished city hotel. They have a wide range of coffee.

Magnifik – At this café you can sit out in the sun and eat good tacos and macarons. This café is also situated in the centrum of the city, in Kungsgatan. They have recently done a makeover of the interior.

Fabian Flinks – Fabian Flinks is the smallest café in Enköping, there are only a few seats. You can buy newly baked bread or rolls there. The owner of the café has won awards for his delicious biscuits, some say the biscuits are unique and delicious.  

Tand Gredelin – When you enter Tant Gredelin it feels like you have traveled  back in time, because it has a sort of old-style and cozy atmosphere. Maybe it’s because it is placed in a very old house. Here you will find outdoor seating. Tant Gredelin was established 2006.

Supermarkets in Enköping

Ica Maxi stormarknad – Ica Maxi is the largest and most popular food store in Enköping. There you can find everything from food to clothes. Before ICA Maxi there was a ICA Kvantum (a slightly smaller store) situated at the same place, Ica kvantum was in that place. The vision of ICA “We will be Enköpings best food store!”

Coop Forum – Coop forum is located centrally and next to Coop Forum you will find Coop Bygg and they offer tools and garden products. Coop gets lots of costumers because Systembolaget is placed in the same building.

Willys – At Willys you can easily find what you’re looking for, they have quality products at a low price. Their slogan is “Sweden's cheapest bag of groceries.” You can find Willys in the outskirts of Enköping.

Lidl – Lidl is from the start a German supermarket. Lidl is nearby Willys and is known to have cheap products. Their business idea is “We sell products of the highest quality at the lowest possible price.”

Ica Stjärnköp – A more intimate Ica store is located at Gustav Adolf's plan and many people get their groceries there because it’s near the center. And is there for handy if you live in town and when you shopping. Ica Stjärnköp is a small supermarket, but it is going very well for them.

Ö&b – Ö&b means Överskottsbolaget. Ö&b has everything you could imagine, from electronics equipment to bird food. They always have cheap products, but not always at the best quality.

Restaurants in Enköping

There are about 40 restaurants in Enköping. You have a wide range of Pizza, thai food, Chinese food, sushi, burgers, fast food and homely fare.  Here are some of the most popular restaurants:

Wikmans - Wikmans is both a café and a restaurant. You can eat salad, nachos and focaccia. Many people is attracted there because it got the perfect size and the atmosphere. Wikmans is at the end of Kungsgatan.

McDonald´s and Max - McDonald´s is the most popular fast food chain in Enköping. But recently Max established a restaurant in Enköping. Even trough the restaurants are competitors both are thriving.

Ricos - Ricos gets lots of costumers because it´s close to a high school, so many students comes to eat there. At Ricos you can eat pizza, hamburgers, salads and kebab. They are known for their good service.

Vita Elefanten - Vita Elefanten is one of the finest restaurant that we have in Enköping, at Vita Elefanten they serve different kinds of Thai food. Every day between 11-15 o’clock they have lunch buffet and it attracts a lot of people.  That’s the most famous restaurant we have in Enköping.

Star lounge - Star lounge is a restaurant at daytime and a sports bar in the evening. They serve good quality homely fare. Star lounge is in the center of Enköping.
